Trichlor vs Dichlor
Both are stabilized chlorines that add cyanuric acid, but trichlor is a slow-dissolving acidic tablet for hands-off daily chlorination and dichlor is a fast, near-neutral granular for shocking, spas, and new pools. Use trichlor in a feeder for everyday chlorine; use dichlor for quick granular dosing, and switch to unstabilized chlorine once your CYA climbs too high.
Soda Ash vs Baking Soda
Soda ash (sodium carbonate) raises pH; baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) raises total alkalinity, and they are not interchangeable. Use baking soda when alkalinity is low, soda ash when pH is low but alkalinity is fine, and when both are low start with baking soda and add soda ash only if pH is still short.
